National Seminar on Library Science in KIIT

Experts from the field of library science converged at the KIIT Deemed-to-be-University-organised seminar here on Sunday to discuss thread-bare the open source movement. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Sasmita Samanta emphasised the introduction of information analytics and data science into the syllabus to expand and broaden the opportunities for students of library science.

Addressing the seminar titled “Open Source Movement: What Next”, Prof. Samanta favoured increased use of modern-day technology such as AI and data science to give a fresh impetus to the library movement. She said the KIIT Central library embodies the best of library science and reflects the global perspective.

I am attending this event with people who are committed to protecting, preserving and disseminating knowledge. You are key stakeholders acting as a bridge between the generations, she said welcoming the library scientists.

The seminar aims to provide useful information on open source software, journals and databases among library professionals to help the researchers and teachers openly and freely to carry out research without any monetary investment, said Director of the KIIT Central Library Bijayalaxmi Rautaray.

She praised the efforts of the Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta for not only creating a world-class library but also being a great source of inspiration for the growth of library professionals to support teaching and research.

The speakers at the seminar spoke eloquently about the KIIT Central Library, commending it for its infrastructure and its objectives.

We don’t have our future without a library. KIIT is an institution which believes that despite the overwhelming dominance of electronics in every field, the libraries movement should go on unhindered,” said the HoD of PG Dept of Library Science at Sambalpur University Prof. Bulu Maharana. A library is a great place to innovate, think and collaborate, he underscored.

Prof. Partha Sarathi Mukhopadhyay of the University of Kalyani, Prof.  Bhaskar Mukherjee, Banaras of Hindu University and Dr. Akhtar Parvez of Maulana Azad National Urdu University addressed different dimensions of the open access movement. Around 500 participants from different parts of the county participated in the national seminar.

Sustainability Hackathon Boot Camp at KIIT

KIIT School of Rural Management in association with the EDI, Ahmedabad and World trade Centre, Bhubaneswar hosted a Boot Camp (ground expert session) with a vision of aligning students focus to sustainable development in line with Sustainability Development Agenda of the G-20, initiated by India as the president of the group. This Hackathon Challenge is being conducted across India to get 10000 qualified entries from various universities and B Schools. The boot camp was graced by Ms. Abha Mishra, Odisha State Head of UNDP, Mr Ashwini Rath CEO, Batoi Systems (P) Limited, Ms Nimeshika Natarajan, Assistant Director, WTC, Mr Durga Prasad Gouda, COO, AIC-Nalanda Institute of Technology, Dr Subrat Biswal, Regional Head EDI and Prof. Nishith Parida, Director KSRM.

The speakers deliberated upon the issue of ssustainability and its growing relevance for the world at large. Eighty innovative proposals on the theme were received for the next qualifying round where a regional winner would be decided. All these regional winners would participate in the national round which would be held in Ahmedabad. The successful proposals would be business rolled subsequently.”

Awareness Talk by KCC experts at CISF Mundali

Oncologists from KIMS Cancer Centre conducted a cancer awareness talk at CISF Centre, Mundali. Dr. Sabyasachi Parida covered cancer causes, multidisciplinary management, and prevention, while Dr. Ushashree Das focused on gynecological cancer management. The hour-long session was interactive, with oncologists addressing participants’ queries. The event, attended by CISF officers and their families, was well-received, with attendees expressing appreciation for the valuable information provided.

KSAC Hosts the National Open Quiz ‘Udghosh’

On April 2, 2023, the Quizzing Society of KIIT, Qutopia, hosted Udghosh 2023, a national open quiz competition with over 500 participants. Major Chandrakant Nair moderated the event, which included a competitive preliminary and final round. Team Rasagolla Revolutionaries won first place, followed by the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance in second, and Caveat Attempt in third. DAV Public School, Unit-8, received the Best School Award. Winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates, with the first prize being Rs. 75,000. The event was praised for its organization and engagement, making it a grand success .

Advanced Trauma Care CME-cum-Workshop at KIMS

The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) held its second advanced trauma care CME-cum-workshop on May 13-14, 2024, at the KAABEEL Simulation Centre. Focused on “Upgrading Skill and Improving Outcomes,” the event was organized by the Department of Critical Care Medicine and drew 100 delegates from various specialties, including anesthesiology, surgery, orthopedics, and emergency medicine. The workshop, inaugurated by KIMS Principal Prof. Ambika Prasad Mohanty and Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Ajay Bahl, featured real-life case scenarios for hands-on practice. Directed by Dr. Devi Prasad Dash and coordinated by Dr. Sansay Mohapatra, the program aimed to enhance trauma care skills and save lives.

KIIT to Host National Technical Meet of Indian Institute of Metals

KIIT Deemed to be University has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) to organize the highly anticipated National Technical Meet-National Metallurgist Day-International Symposium 2023. KSOM Professors Launch MOOC Course on SWAYAM Platform

Prof. Rabi N. Subudhi, Senior Professor, KIIT School of Management, and Prof. Sumita Mishra, Dean, KIIT School of Management, launched a MOOC Course titled “Quantitative and Mixed Method Research” on the SWAYAM Platform, an initiative by the Government of India, coordinated by IIM Bangalore’s SWAYAM Centre. Prof. Rabi N. Subudhi, Senior Professor, KIIT School of Management, and Prof. Sumita Mishra, Dean, KIIT School of Management, launched a MOOC Course titled “Quantitative and Mixed Method Research” on the SWAYAM Platform, an initiative by the Government of India, coordinated by IIM Bangalore’s SWAYAM Centre.

SWAYAM is the largest online MOOC platform offering numerous courses across diverse disciplines. The “Quantitative and Mixed Method Research” course spans 8 weeks and is of 2 credits. Upon successful completion of all evaluated components, participants will receive a certificate jointly issued by                                                                                                                                                  SWAYAM and KIIT-DU.

Public Lectures Conducted in 2023

KIMS Dept of Pain Medicine conducts 9th Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Workshop

The Department of Pain Medicine at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) successfully completed 9th batch of Comprehensive Pain and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (CPMU) hands-on workshop) at KIMS Superspecialty Hospital with three delegates (Dr. Akansha Bansal from Vadodara, Dr. Priya Nair from Bangalore and Dr. Sadeep Joshi from Maldives).This unique program gives insight into clinical methods in pain medicine, physical examination, sonographic scanning, learning protocolized musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning of shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, cervical and lumbar spine, gluteal scan and peripheral nerves. The CPMU covered lectures, scanning volunteer in a step-wise manner till delegates are satisfied, scan patients in OPD, see pathological findings and observe procedures performed under ultrasound guidance. During the workshop, the experts performed a wide variety of interventional pain management procedures including wrist Carpal Tunnel Hydrodissection, Four Plantar Fascia injections, One Baxter Nerve Hydrodissection, PRP in Tennis Elbow, Great Auricular Nerve Hydrodissection, Dorsal Scapular Nerve Hydrodissection at Scapula, Rotator cuff interval hydrodilation in Frozen shoulder, Subacromial bursa injection, SI joint injections with Prolotherapy, Piriformis injection, LFCN Hydrodissection in Meralgia Paresthetica, Tibialis Posterior injection in a patient with Tenosynovitis, GH joint injection, GH Joint Posterior approach hydrodilation, Superficial personal nerve Hydrodissection with Prolotherapy, Greater Trochanteric bursa injection, Knee Joint PRP and more. The delegates were extremely satisfied with the training they received and were thankful to the authorities of KIMS Hospital for the facilities and hospitality. KSFH Organizes 2nd Sociological Lecture Series For public

Department of Sociology, KIIT School of Social, Financial and Human Sciences (KSFH),  organized an extramural lecture on “Foundations of Sociology: Text and Context” on 6th April, 2023  as part of the 2nd Sociological Lecture Series of the School.

Joining the lecture as the resource person, Prof. Rabindra K. Mohanty, Professor and Head, Department of Sociology, Mizoram University, Mizoram discussed the origin and development of the discipline of sociology in different stages through the lens of five classical sociological thinkers i.e. A. Comte, H. Spencer, E. Durkheim, M. Weber and V. Pareto. The lecture was immediately followed by an open question session from the students. It was an interactive session in which the speakers answered queries of the students. With the consent of Prof. Jayant Kumar Parida, Director, KSFH, the esteemed speaker of the day was formally welcomed and presented a memento of honor by Dr. Pinaki Nadan Pattnaik, Associate Professor of the School. The faculty members of the school and the bachelor and master students of sociology showed active participation in the event. KSMC Hosts open Lecture on “Behind the Scenes in British & Indian Football”

On March 29, 2023, the KIIT School of Mass Communication hosted a lecture titled “Behind the Scenes in British & Indian Football” by Raj Athwal, President of Odisha FC. The talk provided insights into media and communication in sports, challenges of running a football club in India, and career opportunities in the field. KSMC alumnus Pragyan Ray also shared her career journey with Odisha FC. The event, anchored by Dishari Banerjee and concluded with a vote of thanks by Aniruddha Jena, aimed to connect students with potential internship opportunities and strengthen ties with Odisha FC.

KIDS organises national implantology conference “Impla-Integrate 2023”

Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) successfully organized “Impla-Integrate 2023,” a national conference on dental implantology, from May 18 to 20 at their Dental Auditorium. Led by Dr. Jugojyoti Pathi, the event featured keynote lectures from esteemed speakers including Dr. Tushar Chawla, Dr. Ashashi Bhushan, and Dr. Shalini Kapoor, alongside international experts from Canada and South Africa. The conference, which drew over 300 delegates, showcased scientific papers and posters by dental faculty and post-graduate students. The inauguration was attended by KIDS officials, with the event concluding with a vote of thanks by Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Singh.

Distinguished Lecture Series on the ‘Relevance of Bhima Bhoi in the Present Context’ at KISS - a sister concern of KIIT

The Bhima Bhoi Research Chair at KISS, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell and the Bhima Bhoi Research Chair at G. M. University, Sambalpur, organized a Distinguished Lecture Series on “The Relevance of Bhima Bhoi in the Present Context” on 3rd November 2023. Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice Chancellor of KISS, highlighted the need to digitally document Bhima Bhoi’s bhajans for future research. Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar of KISS, emphasized increasing publications and research on Bhima Bhoi’s contributions to society.

On November 17, 2023, Dr. Partha Pratim Roy from IIT Roorkee delivered a lecture on ‘Machine Learning using Python’ at the School of Computer Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University. He discussed emerging research areas and applications of machine learning, including AI and robotics, OCR, speech recognition, biometric systems, autonomous vehicles, and more. The lecture provided graduate students with valuable insights into this evolving technology. The event was coordinated by Dr. Pradeep Kumar Mallick.

KSFH Organizes Special Lecture on ‘Economics in Everyday Life & Policy in India’ for general public

The KIIT School of Social, Financial, and Human Sciences (KSFH) organized a Special Lecture on ‘Economics in Everyday Life & Policy in India’ on 8th December 2023. Eminent economic theorist and development economist Professor Sudipta Sarangi, Head of the Department of Economics at Virginia Tech University, USA, and Fellow at the French Institute for Advanced Studies, Collegium de Lyon, France, delivered the talk. Professor Sarangi lucidly conveyed economic terms and constructs using everyday objects and shared experiences in crisp, easy-to-understand lessons. The discussion covered a wide range of areas, including incentives, game theory, price discrimination, poverty, and more.

Among others, Professor Jayanta Kumar Parida, Director of KSFH, Professor Keshab Das, Dean, and Professor P. T. Chowdhury also spoke. Faculty members, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and PhD scholars participated in the event, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Saswat Kishore Mishra, Associate Professor of Economics, KSFH.

KSOM Faculty Member Delivers an Expert Talk at International `Roundtable Meeting on “Millets for Global Food Security”

The African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) organised an International Roundtable meeting on “Millets for Global Food Security” in Hyderabad in association with the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE).

Prof. Priti Ranjan Sahoo, Associate Professor of the School of Management, KIIT DU was invited as an expert speaker at the Plenary Session. Prof. Sahoo spoke on “Value Addition and Value Chain in Millets”. He discussed the initiatives and innovations at Odisha Millet Mission at length and how the O.M.M. is strengthening the food security & health of tribal communities and has revived millets in farms and on plates. Odisha has set a global benchmark by promoting millet entrepreneurship, focusing on empowering Mission Shakti (Women Self Help Groups). During his talk, he cited several examples of how the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) – a sister concern of KIIT has always focused on providing food rooted in the tribal culture, and that’s why millet is an essential element of the student’s diet. He further cited the Millet Hub at KIIT Deemed University, the first-ever exclusive Millet Cafe on a university campus in India and the world.

African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) is an autonomous inter-governmental organisation established in 1962 for cooperation among the countries in agriculture and rural development. AARDO has thirty-two member countries in Africa and Asia. AARDO a non-political body enjoys observer status with various U.N. and other international organisations like Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Cooperative Alliance (I.C.A.), Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), etc.

The National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) was established in 1987 as the National Centre for Management of Agricultural Extension in Hyderabad by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, as an autonomous Institute.

During the occasion, AARDO released its official Journal, “African Asian Journal of Rural Development,” Volume 58, Issue II (in circulation since 1966). In this issue, Prof. Sahoo has contributed a research paper on “Role of Farmers and Consumer Behaviour in Mainstreaming Millet: Evidence from Odisha Millet Mission (O.M.M.)”.

The programme witnessed the active participation of twenty-one representatives of thirteen AARDO member countries. Among others, Padmashree Dr. Khadir Walli (Millet Man of India), Padmashree Dr. Subhash Palekar (Natural Farming), Dr. P. Chandra Shekara, Director General, MANAGE, Dr. C. Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Prof. Poornima Varma, I.I.M., Ahmedabad, and Prof. Amandeep Singh, I.I.T., Kanpur attended the roundtable meeting.

As a part of the programme, the delegate visited the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Indian Institute of Millets Research (ICAR-IIMR), National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (ICAR-NAARM), and National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR).

Inspiring Talk on Poverty Alleviation by Dr. S.P.K. Jena

On the 23rd of February, 2024, we had the incredible opportunity to host a distinguished clinical psychologist and professor Dr. S. P. K. Jena. He is a Professor at, the Department of Applied Psychology, University of Delhi, and former Director of, the Institute of Behavioural Sciences, Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (now National Forensic Sciences University). He has published several articles in national and international journals and has authored books followed by the mental health community as a part of the core text. He is the former editor of the Indian Journal of Clinical Psychology. Our school had an engaging session on “Poverty Alleviation: A Behavioral Perspective” with him. It was an interactive and enlightening discussion shedding light on the nuanced aspects of poverty and how behavioral insights can play a pivotal role in addressing this global issue.

From understanding the psychological barriers that hinder economic progress to exploring innovative solutions grounded in behavioral science, the session provided valuable insights into the complexities of poverty and ways to empower individuals and communities for sustainable change. Shedding light on absolute and relative poverty, he shared many experiences of ground-level interventions with destitute people of the nation that inspired the faculty and student audiences.

KSPH Organizes National Seminar on ‘Collaborations in Public Health Research: The Post Pandemic Priorities’

On January 13, 2024, the KIIT School of Public Health (KSPH) hosted a national seminar titled ‘Collaborations in Public Health Research: The Post Pandemic Priorities.’ The event, inaugurated by Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of KIIT-DU, and attended by prominent figures including Dr. Bijaya Kumar Mohapatra and Prof. Gopal Chandra Kundu, aimed to explore post-pandemic collaboration in public health. Keynote speaker Prof. So Yoon Kim joined virtually to discuss the pandemic’s impact on global research. The seminar featured presentations on pandemic response, international cooperation, and emerging research areas, with over 150 participants from various institutions engaging in the discussions.

KIIT School of Public Health Organizes International Seminar on ‘Universal Health Coverage’

The KIIT School of Public Health (KSPH), KIIT Deemed to be University, hosted an international seminar on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) on 7th February 2024 as a pre-KIIT Fest 7.0 event. The aim of the seminar was to deliberate on the current scenario, challenges, best practices and way ahead in achieving UHC by 2030.  UHC is defined as access to and provision of an essential basket of healthcare services of acceptable standard to everyone who needs those services, irrespective of social and economic conditions. The seminar featured two distinguished speakers: Prof. Stefano Greco, Founder Director of Chitkara Spaak Centre for Multidisciplinary European Studies, Chitkara University, Punjab, and Prof. Monika Steffen, Senior Research Fellow and Former Director of Pacte CNRS (French National Center of Scientific Research), France. Prof. (Brig.) Ambika Prasad Mohanty, Dean & Principal, KIMS graced the inaugural session, which was also attended by Director of KSPH, Prof (Dr.) Bhuputra Panda, faculty members, students and staff members of KSPH. Extending a warm welcome to the guests and speakers, Prof. (Dr.) Bhuputra Panda referred to the recently tabled UHG Global Monitoring Report (2023) at the UN Headquarters, emphasizing upon the significance of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Indian context and its relevance to graduates of public health and hospital administration. Prof. (Brig.) Ambika Prasad Mohanty highlighted the recent advancements in medical science and relevant policy changes contributing to the objectives of achieving UHC in India. He talked about the role of KIMS in the provision of healthcare. Prof. Stefano Greco delivered a lecture on the importance of universal health coverage for sustainable development and human rights. He underscored the advantages of universal health coverage in improving health outcomes, reducing poverty, fostering social cohesion, and stimulating economic growth. Prof. Monika Steffen discussed how European countries attained universal health coverage through various financial risk protection models and mechanisms. She compared and contrasted the experiences of different European countries in terms of financing, governance, service delivery, and equity. Furthermore, she shared insights and policy recommendations for advancing universal health coverage in other regions. Prof. Himanshu Sekhar Pradhan, Asso. Prof, KSPH and Organizing Chairman of KIIT FEST 7.0 delivered a presentation on the “Universal Health Coverage in India – A Brief Overview” and proposed the vote of thanks. Following the seminar, Master of Public Health students delivered presentations, and an interactive session allowed participants to put questions and exchange their perspectives on the topic.

KIIT Hosts Seminar on Advanced Functional Materials SMC Bhubaneswar Chapter Inaugurated

KIIT Deemed to be University hosted a Seminar on Advanced Functional Materials on 24th February 2024. In a noteworthy initiative aimed at fostering material research, the Society for Material Chemistry (SMC) Bhubaneswar Chapter was inaugurated during the event. The headquarters of this society is located at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Professor A. K. Tyagi, Distinguished Scientist, DAE and Director, Chemistry Group, BARC shared his invaluable expertise and insights, enriching and adding value to the discussions on the latest advancements in material chemistry. Knowledge is power and it is well realized by Prof. Achyuta Samanta, the visionary Founder of KIIT & KISS, he said.

Prof. K. M. Parida, Vice-president, SMC, elaborated on the importance of the Bhubaneswar Chapter. “This auspicious beginning with the inauguration of the SMC local chapter will bring all material researchers together for fruitful intellectual exchange aimed at desired scientific outcomes,” he stated.

KINS seminar on `nursing process’

With the aim to upgrade the knowledge of nursing students regarding nursing care Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU, organised a day-long seminar on `Nursing Process’onMarch 4, at KIDS auditorium.

Sarting the session with a keynote address, Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS highlighted the overall nursing process and encouraged the first year nursing students to apply the same in their clinical setting for quality nursing care. The first talk on “Introduction to nursing process” was presented by Subhashree Mohapatra, Tutor, KINS. She focused on overview of nursing process, it’s purposes, components and characteristics.

In her talk on “Nursing Assessment”Jayashree Pradhan, Tutor, KINS discussed the meaning of assessment, data collection procedure and physical assessment. Debajani Sahoo Assistant Professor KINS presented her talk on “Nursing Diagnosis”. The next talk on “Planning”was presented by Devasmita Sahoo, Tutor, KINS. Karisma Tripathy, Tutor, KINS delivered her talk on “Implementation” and focused on the intervention part of nursing process in which she highlighted on the purposes, characteristics, types, process and skills required for a nurse to perform the task .

The last session “Evaluation” was taken by Anita Panigrahi, in which she emphasized the objectives of evaluation in nursing process. It was a very interactive session where the speakers clarified all the queries of the students by quoting suitable examples, followed by which a post test session was done to evaluate the effectiveness of the seminar. All students of M.Sc, B.Sc Nursing, GNM and faculty members of KINS attended.

The seminar was coordinated by the seminar organizing committee of KINS and anchored by Smrutirekha Sahoo, Tutor, KINS. Vote of thanks was proposed by Sasmita Rout., Assistant Professor, KINS. Around 180 participants participated.

Public Workshop Conducted in 2023

KSPH Organizes a Workshop on “Organization Development Training Program for NGOs from Nuapada District, Odisha”

The KIIT School of Public Health (KSPH) organized a five-day workshop titled “Organization Development Training Program for NGOs under NPI-EXPAND Project” from December 18th to 22nd 2023, in collaboration with the Centre for Catalyzing Change (C3), India. The primary objective of the workshop was to enhance the organizational development, proposal development, governance, monitoring, reporting, and documentation capacities of the participating NGOs. The workshop was attended by representatives from 10 district level NGOs operating in various sectors such as health, education, environment, agriculture, and social justice in Nuapada district of Odisha. Topics related to developing concept notes and project proposal writing, result-based frameworks, project management information systems, data management, reporting, documentation, communication skills, team management, fundraising strategies, donor compliance, and donor relationship management were covered. Group discussions, case studies, and hands-on practice sessions were held. The Director of KSPH, Prof (Dr) Bhuputra Panda and faculty members from the School of Public Health facilitated the workshop. Guest speakers from C3 also shared best practices and lessons on organizational development, reporting and documentation. Most of the participants were overwhelmed with the workshop content, methodologies, and pedagogy of facilitators, they expressed their deep sense of gratitude to KSPH, the Founder of KIIT- KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta and C3 for providing such kind of training and exposure. KSOFT Hosts Workshop on Fashion Lifestyle Accessories Designing

KIIT School of Fashion Technology (KSOFT), recently organized a comprehensive workshop focusing on Fashion Lifestyle Accessories Designing, with a special emphasis on Sustainable and Fancy Jewellery. The event spanned from the 7th to the 9th of February 2024, attracting enthusiasts and experts alike.

The workshop featured esteemed artisans, including the National Awardee, Shri Ekadashi Barik, renowned for his Bamboo Jewellery craftsmanship, and Mrs Geetanjali Mahapatra, recognized by G20 for her expertise in Fancy Jewellery design.

Students from all academic years, from first to third, eagerly participated in the workshop, immersing themselves in two days of learning and creative exploration. The sessions were designed to provide hands-on experience and insights into the intricacies of designing sustainable and fancy jewellery pieces.

On the final day, the workshop culminated in an exhilarating competition, showcasing the talents nurtured during the event.

On this day adding to the vibrancy of the event, Ollywood Playback Singer and alumna of KIIT, Jyotirmayee Nayak, graced the occasion, joining as a jury member for the competition, further enriching the experience for participants and adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings. Three winners emerged from the competition, demonstrating their innovation and skill in crafting unique accessories.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including AO Mr. Rajanikant Baral, Deputy Director Ms. Gipsita Nayak, and Dean Professor Bauri Raula, of KSOFT, who inaugurated the event alongside Convenor Itishree Sahoo and other distinguished faculty members.

Adding to the excitement of the inaugural day, Sampoorna Pati, a second-semester student, achieved a remarkable milestone by publishing her book titled “Lost in Time,” which was also inaugurated during the ceremony, celebrating the diverse talents within the KIIT community.

The workshop not only provided a platform for students to show their design skills but also fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange between artisans, students, and industry professionals. KSOFT’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting sustainable practices in fashion design was evident throughout the event.

KIIT ITI Conducts Technical Expo 2024

KIIT-ITI hosted a two-day Technical Expo from February 22nd to 23rd, 2024, aimed at enriching the students’ knowledge and skills while showcasing their abilities. The event was graced by Shri R. N. Dash, Secretary, KIIT & KISS, Prof. J. R. Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU, and Prof. S. C. Swain, Principal, KIIT-ITI, along with other senior functionaries of KIIT University.

KSPH Organizes Workshop on ‘Systematic Review’

The KIIT School of Public Health hosted a two-day workshop on ‘Systematic Review’ on November 6-7, 2023. The workshop aimed to equip students with skills for conducting systematic reviews on health and social issues. It covered key aspects such as formulating research questions, setting criteria, database searching, quality assessment, data synthesis, and writing according to PRISMA guidelines. The program included lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, and practical exercises.

KIIT-DU Hosts First Aid Training & Workshop

“In an aim to reduce the number of road fatalities caused by accidents, KIIT-DU organized a First Aid Training programme on April 23, 2024. Approximately 70 YRC volunteers participated in the training, where they were instructed on various skills by Mr. Laxman Swain, Junior Red Cross Officer and Lecturer in First Aid. The training included demonstrations on how to manage unconscious victims, bleeding, fractures, heart attacks, strokes, heat strokes, snake bites, and other emergency situations. During the workshop, the volunteers took an oath to provide emergency services whenever and wherever needed. The training instilled confidence in the volunteers to effectively handle such situations. Dr. Chitralekha Jena, YRC Counsellor at KIIT-DU, coordinated the programme, while YRC volunteers Somil Shaurya, Anuska Chakraborty, Aashish Kumar, and Krishnam Sinha played key roles in organizing and ensuring the success of the workshop.

KIIT Job Fair in Patia Village

The Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta on Saturday handed over appointment letters to 125 unemployed youths of Patia village, taking the number of employees from the village who are engaged in the KIIT family to 325. The appointment letters were handed over at a mega job fair organized with the active cooperation of the Patia Gram Mangala Samiti and office bearers of the samiti who were present on the occasion. They included Corporators of Ward No 3 Laxmipriya Parida, Nrusingha Rout, Chittaranjan Patra, Santosh Parida, Amulya Jena and Bishnu Patra of Patia Gram Mangal Samiti.

During his visit to the village last year, the Founder had assured the villagers to consider their demands for engaging the unemployed youths at KIIT. As of now, more than 200 people from the village are already engaged in KIIT, KISS and KIMS. The total number of employees from Patia village in KIIT, KISS, & KIMS now stands at 325. The Founder said, it’s a record that so many youths from villages have got employment in one institute.

National Workshop on Physical Simulation of Thermal-Mechanical Processing of Materials

The School of Mechanical Engineering and Central Research Facility (CRF) of KIIT Deemed to be University in association with Gleeble User Forum of India organized a National Workshop on “Physical Simulation of Thermal-Mechanical Processing of Materials” from March 16–18, 2023. Eminent academicians, scholars, dignitaries from business, and participants from around the world attended the workshop. Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU said that academic research and innovations should be humanitarian. KIIT has maintained this focus since inception and, as a result, it has a tremendous positive impact on millions of people throughout the world, she stated. Dr. Balamurali Krishnan, Director of DMRL Hyderabad appreciated the event as it brought together the brightest minds in steel manufacturing and research. Dr. Fulvio Siciliano, Chief Scientist, Dynamic Systems Inc., USA expressed his satisfaction at the enthusiasm and energy of the academic community at KIIT. 3rd IEEE International Conference on Smart Technologies for Power, Energy and Control (STPEC 2023)

The School of Electrical Engineering, KIIT-DU in collaboration with IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) and IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) organized the 3rd IEEE International Conference on Smart Technologies for Power, Energy and Control (STPEC 2023) from 10th to 13th December 2023. The conference was technically sponsored by IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) and IEEE IES Bhubaneswar Subsection Kolkata Joint Chapter.

The inaugural session of the STPEC 2023 was held on 11th December with Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS delivering the inaugural address virtually. Dr. Tapan Sahoo, Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. spoke about the prospects of locomotive drives, while Dr. Subhransu Ranjan Samantaray, Professor & Head, School of Electrical Science, IIT Bhubaneswar and Honorary Chair STPEC2023 encouraged everyone to delve into research and write papers.

Dr. Bijay Ketan Panigrahi, Fellow-IEEE, Professor, IIT Delhi & General Chair-STPEC 2023 talked about the relevance of smart technologies in the field of research. Prof. Akshyay Kumar Rathore, Fellow-IEEE & Professor SIT-Singapore addressed the gathering about the efforts of IEEE in organizing the conference. Prof. Lalit Goel, Fellow-IEEE & Professor NTU, Singapore discussed the role of research and its benefits. Dr. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU and Dr. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, School of Electrical Engineering also spoke.

Professor Sriniwas Singh, Fellow-IEEE suggested to continue researching and organizing conferences regularly so that knowledge can be disseminated around the globe. 106th Indian Economic Association Conference Begins at KIIT

The 106th edition of the Indian Economic Association (IEA) Conference commenced with insightful remarks from distinguished speakers, shedding light on crucial economic aspects and the evolving landscape of technology and policy-making. Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session, Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, noted economist and Former Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission of India underscored the strength of the Indian democracy despite competing interests, ensuring policy continuity despite changing governments. He delved into the influence of evolving technology, emphasizing the rise of tech giants in impacting decision-making processes. Dr. Ahluwalia highlighted the impending structural changes needed to accompany technology-led advancements. He advocated for a balanced policy approach to integrate new technology without inhibiting innovation, stressing the importance of ensuring vulnerable populations have access to jobs. He urged economists to reflect on these challenges and encouraged diverse perspectives within the Indian Economic Association. Dr. Ahluwalia released a special book on the occasion titled ‘Community Builder for Education, Empowerment and Enlightenment’ in honour of the contribution of the Founder of KIIT and KISS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta. Dr. Samanta, also the Patron of the Indian Economic Association, expressed his gratitude for hosting the conference at KIIT. He highlighted the institution’s meticulous financial management as he recounted the humble beginnings of KIIT and KISS, emphasizing their rapid transformation into globally acclaimed entities. President of the Indian Economic Association Conference, Dr. Biswajit Chatterjee gave an exhaustive picture of the Indian economy at the macro level. Department of Mathematics, KIIT School of Applied Sciences Celebrates “Mathematics Week”

To commemorate the 136th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of Mathematics, School of Applied Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University celebrated “Mathematics Week” by organizing a two-day series of expert talks followed by poster presentation by Ph.D. scholars from 20th-21st December 2023. Prof. Sudarsan Padhy (Ex-Director of Institute of Mathematics and Applications), Prof. Sudarsan Nanda (Professor of Eminence and Research Chair, KIIT-DU), Prof. Mahendra Prasad Biswal (Emeritus Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, KIIT-DU), and Prof. Pramod Kumar Das (Emeritus Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, KIIT-DU) delivered their talks.

National Mathematics Day (December 22) which commemorates great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan’s birthday, promotes and highlights his outstanding accomplishments. Ramanujan was regarded as a skilled mathematician because he contributed important mathematical analysis and solved some of the unsolvable equations. The goal of Mathematics Week celebration is to increase public understanding of the value of mathematics. At this event, people recognized the value of Mathematics in advancing humanity at all levels.

On this occasion, Dean, School of Applied Sciences, Prof. P. Rath inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Dr. Abhijit Sutradhar (Convener) and Dr. Utkal Keshari Dutta (Co-Convener) introduced the guests to the audience and managed the event. On 20th December 2023, Prof. S. Padhy delivered a talk on the topic “The Mathematics of Web Search” followed by the talk of Prof. S. Nanda on the life history and contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujan to mathematical society.

On the next day, Prof. M. P. Biswal illustrated the Approximation of Pi(π) Using a Trigonometric Series. Prof. P. K. Das delivered a talk on the topic “Marriage Problem” based on Graph Theory, and thereafter the two-day series of talks was summarized by Dr. Mrutyunjay Das (Coordinator, Dept. of Mathematics, KIIT-DU).

Later, in the session of poster presentations, a committee chaired by Prof. Pramod Kumar Das evaluated the posters of research scholars from the Dept. of Mathematics in which Ms. Kanak Lata Xalxo and Ms. Itishree Sahu received the 1st and 2nd position respectively. All the faculty members, research scholars and M.Sc. Students of the department attended the event.

Japanese Language Training Launched for KISS & Nursing Students under JR-IR Program

On National Youth Day, KIIT School of Language & Literature (KSLL) launched a Japanese language and culture training program for 70 students from Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) – a sister concern of KIIT. This initiative, part of the Japan Ready – Industry Ready (JR-IR) program under the India-Japan bilateral agreement, offers 120 hours of instruction by Ms. Mami Kimura, a volunteer from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The inaugural session was attended by notable figures including Prof. (Dr.) Deepak Kumar Behera, Prof. (Dr.) Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, and Prof. (Dr.) Beerendra Pandey. The JR-IR program, initiated in 2021, aims to develop bilingual technical experts for opportunities in Japan and Japanese-related organizations in India, with certification upon completion.

KIMS Department of Community Medicine Organizes Quiz for MBBS Batch 2022

Department of Community Medicine, KIMS organized a quiz for MBBS batch 2022 on 1st February 2024. The quiz event was chaired by Dean & Principal, Brig. Prof. (Dr.) Ambika Prasad Mohanty, and Prof. (Dr.) Sonali Kar, HOD, Department of Community Medicine. It was conducted under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Basanta Kumar Behera and the quiz master was Dr. Ipsita Debata, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine. Dr. Rosy Nayak and Dr Dibyajyoti Mandal helped in smooth conduct of the quiz. There was active participation of all faculties and PG students from the Department of Community Medicine. The quiz was on the topic of screening, concept of health and disease, epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases. It was a MCQ based quiz. There were 31 teams and each team comprised of 5 students, who participated in the quiz. The first place went to Piyushi, Priyanka, Anusha, Baishali, Aishwariya, the second place went to Palak, Arpita, Violona, Navya, Manasi and the third place went to Soumyajit, Swatideepa, Subhadip, Indrayudh, Rishi of 2022 MBBS Batch. The quiz was conducted to encourage learning among students and prizes were given to motivate them.

Curtains Come Down On The First Odia Language Conference At KIIT

The two-day first Odia Poets’ Meet, held as part of the World Odia Language Conference, concluded at KIIT.

On the second day, the session focused on the relevance of poetry translation for the emotional development of language and culture, where distinguished poets participated in discussions.

The speakers emphasized the careful effort needed by translators to ensure that the essence of the original poetry is not lost during the translation process. They expressed that poetry translation is a complex task but stressed the importance of always keeping the originality of the poem intact during translation.

Notable poets Bhagaban Jayasingh, Amaresh Patnaik, Deepak Samantaray, Prabhasini Mahakud, Dr. Mihir Kumar Sahu, Kshirod Parida, and Sharat Chandra Acharya were prominent speakers who discussed various aspects of translation literature.

The celebratory festival also saw the presence of eminent poet Padma Shri Haldhar Nag, distinguished poets and Central and Southern Revenue Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Das, Soubhagya Kumar Mishra, Dr. Pratibha Satpathy, Ashutosh Parida, Manorama Biswal Mahapatra, Pradeep Biswal, Dr. Kailash Chandra Tikayatray, and Sipra Malik among others.

300 KSLL Students Participate at the First World Odia Language Conference

Around 300 students from the KIIT School of Language & Literature(KSLL) from both the sister institutions – Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) – participated with great enthusiasm at the day-long session of First World Odia Language Conference on 5th February, 2024. Along with listening to renowned international scholars and observing the deliberations of “Odisha@2036: A Space for Tomorrow” by leading business leaders, students were enthralled with the vibrant display of different facets of Odishan culture through an elaborate exhibition. Students were also excited to hear internationally acclaimed Odia fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra. All of them witnessed the closing ceremony of this great conference which was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha.

KIIT Law School Triumphs at 14th National Christ Moot Court Competition

A team from KIIT Law School recently participated in the prestigious 14th National Christ Moot Court Competition, held in association with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas in Bangalore. The team comprising Sayantika Roy as Speaker One, Shivani Ambastha as Speaker Two, and Sakshi Singh, as Researcher, showcased remarkable skill and dedication throughout the competition. Sayantika Roy bagged the Best Speaker title, a testament to her exceptional oratory skills, legal acumen, and command over the subject matter. Her performance not only brought recognition to herself but also brought immense pride to her institution.

The competition provided a platform for aspiring legal minds to engage in rigorous legal debates, hone their advocacy skills, and network with peers and professionals from across the country. It is a commendable achievement for the team to have excelled in such a competitive environment. KIIT School of Computer Engineering Organizes 4th International Conference on Emerging Systems and Intelligent Computing (ESIC-2024)

The School of Computer Engineering, KIIT-DU, organized 4th International Conference on Emerging Systems and Intelligent Computing (ESIC-2024) on 9th & 10th February 2024. The conference was technically co-sponsored by IEEE Bhubaneswar sub-section and IEEE Kolkata Section Consumer Society Chapter-Bhubaneswar.

The keynotes were presented by Prof. Gyoo-Soo Chae, of Baekseok University South Korea, and Saroj Kumar Meher, of Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore Centre, India. More than 100 papers were presented over 2 days. The proceedings will be published by IEEE and will be indexed in Scopus. ESIC-2024 has attracted attendees from all over the globe with a major presence from India. Extended papers from the conference will be communicated to the Special Issue of a reputed journal.

The Inaugural ceremony was conducted in School of Computer Engineering, campus 14. Prof. Saroj Kumar Meher, of ISI, Bangalore was the chief guest of the inaugural event. Prof. Meher highlighted the significance of emerging applications in our day-to-day life.

Prof.  Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar KIIT DU, addressed the delegates and presented his views on research and innovation. Director General of KIIT School of Computer Engineering, Prof. Biswajit Sahoo welcomed the guests and delegates and expressed his gratitude to KIIT Management for smooth functioning of the events.

KIMS Doctor Felicitated With ‘A ward of Honour’ at 18thAnnual Conference of North Zone Association of Plastic Surgeons

Dr. Sunil Kumar Rout, Senior Consultant, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at KIMS Super Specialty & Cancer Center has been presented the ‘Award of Honour’ at the 18th annual conference of the North Zone Association of Plastic Surgeons in Chandigarh.

He was felicitated in appreciation of his valuable contribution as faculty in the conference held on February 3 and 4.

Dr. Rout delivered the lecture on one of the advanced plastic surgery techniques. The presentation was based on his experience in the subject ( Distraction Osteogenesis in Craniofacial Skeleton) and it was highly appreciated by more than 100 plastic surgeons attending the conference.

The Conference was organised by the Dept of Plastic Surgery, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.

KIIT International Relations Office Organizes Global University Fair

A Global University Fair was organized by the International Relations Office, KIIT Deemed to be University on 17th February 2024. As many as 20 Universities and Institutions from different countries participated in the fair. Students from KIIT-DU interacted with the different University representatives and acquired first-hand information about scholarship opportunities, interest free loans for study abroad, consultations on how to select an institution, information on how to prepare for TOEFL & GRE, housing for students, work opportunities in various countries during their studies at the respective countries, etc.

KIMS Congratulates Radiology Resident Dr. Srimannarayana Reddy M for Securing 2nd Position in Poster Presentation

KIMS, Radiology, PG Resident – Dr. Srimannarayana Reddy M secured 2nd position in Poster Presentation at the 76th Annual National Conference of The Indian Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA) at Vijayawada.

His presentation was titled “A Heart Full of Challenges: Living with Tetralogy of Fallot, Right hemitruncus arteriosus, left pulmonary artery hypoplasia & aortopulmonary collaterals”.

The Department has congratulated him on the accomplishment.
