Ethical Committee

Ethical committee for a university is a vital step in ensuring ethical practices, compliance, and the welfare of participants involved in research, teaching, and other university activities. The primary responsibility of this committee is to review and oversee research projects involving human subjects or animals to ensure that they are conducted ethically and in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines. The Ethical committee plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights, safety, and well-being of research participants, and it aims to ensure that researchers adhere to ethical principles, such as respect for autonomy, beneficence, and justice.

Key functions and responsibilities of Ethical committee include:

  1. Protocol Review: Reviewing research protocols to assess their ethical aspects, Scientific validity, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  2. Informed Consent: Ensuring that informed consent is obtained from all research participants and that the consent process is clear, voluntary, and properly documented.
  3. Participant Protections : Evaluating the potential risks and benefits associated with the research and ensuring that risks are minimized and reasonable in relation to the anticipated benefits.
  4. Confidentiality and Privacy : Ensuring that the confidentiality and privacy of research participants are protected throughout the study.
  5. Conflict of Interest: Addressing and managing any potential conflicts of interest that may arise during the research process.
  6. Continuing Review: Conducting ongoing assessments of long-term or complex research projects to ensure continued compliance with ethical standards.
  7. Education and Training: Providing guidance and education to researchers, students, and faculty members about ethical considerations in research.
  8. Reporting and Monitoring: Monitoring ongoing research activities and promptly addressing any concerns or potential violations of ethical principles.
  9. Compliance with Regulations: Ensuring that the university and its researchers comply with local, national, and international regulations and guidelines governing research with human subjects or animals.
  10. Record-Keeping: Maintaining comprehensive records of all research projects reviewed and approved by the committee.

Activities

1. Holistic development of the indigenous children

The University works with its sister organization Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar, India, to examine the holistic development of indigenous and tribal students.

2. University’s commitment for crime free society

The University is dedicated to fostering a society free from crime by upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct. The University maintains a zero-tolerance stance towards fraudulent activities, including bribery and corruption. All forms of bribery are strictly prohibited and neither the offering nor acceptance of such inducements from stakeholders, clients, suppliers or the public is permitted. These policies apply comprehensively to all students and employees. Staff members are encouraged to report any suspected violations and cooperate fully with investigative, or audit processes related to these matters.

3. Legal Aid and Assistance Clinic

The Legal Aid Student Society of the University is set up in pursuance to Part IV Entry II of the Bar Council of India Rules on Legal Education that makes it mandatory for all 5-year law programmes to have a functional Legal Aid initiative. The Society is one of its own kind whose primary focus is to render free legal aid services to those who find themselves unable to ensure the same. Its role, however, will be restricted only to counselling and assisting the seeker to find a suitable lawyer and there is no scope for the Society to appear before any court or tribunal whatsoever.

4. Wellness clinic

The University, with the assistance of its medical division, has developed wellness clinics in the state’s capital city of Bhubaneswar and numerous other areas. These clinics offer naturopathic treatment, counselling, rehabilitation, and de-addiction therapy services. More than 3500 people have already been healed of serious addictions and mental stress.

5. Inauguration of DLSA Legal Aid Clinic at KIIT School of Law

On 20th February 2026, KIIT School of Law inaugurated the DLSA Legal Aid Clinic to strengthen legal outreach and access to justice initiatives. The clinic aims to provide free legal aid, promote legal awareness, and support community engagement through student-led legal literacy programmes.

6. Legal Awareness Programme at Jadatira Gram Panchayat

On 6th February 2026, the Legal Aid Clinic of KIIT School of Law conducted a Legal Awareness Programme at Jadatira Gram Panchayat to enhance legal literacy and promote access to justice at the grassroots level. The programme educated community members about their legal rights and available legal aid services.

7World Suicide Prevention Day Awareness Programme

On 10th September 2025, KIIT School of Law observed World Suicide Prevention Day through an awareness programme organized by the Centre for Social Action along with the University Counselling Cell and Kalandhika Society. A street play highlighted issues like emotional distress, social pressure, and mental health awareness.

8. Cyber Crime Awareness Session for First-Year LLB and LL.M Students

A Cyber Crime Awareness Session was organized on 29th July 2025 by the Centre for Cyber Law and Cyber Security at KIIT School of Law. Officers from the Cyber Crime Unit, CID Crime Branch, Odisha interacted with students and discussed common cyber crimes, online fraud, and preventive measures to enhance digital safety awareness among young learners.

9. Legal Awareness and Academic Engagement Programme with Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata

On 18–19 April 2025, KIIT Legal Services Clinic hosted students from Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata for a two-day academic engagement. Activities included a legal awareness session, mock counselling simulations, jail visit, and interactive discussions, giving students exposure to practical aspects of law and justice delivery.

10. Orientation and Client Counselling Workshop for Legal Awareness

On 4th September 2024, the Legal Services Clinic at KIIT School of Law organized an Orientation and Client Counselling Workshop to enhance students’ understanding of legal aid, client interaction, and legal counselling processes. The workshop aimed to prepare future advocates to promote legal awareness and provide legal assistance to society.

11. Legal Awareness Programme at Shailendra Narayan Government High School, Patia

On 2nd September 2024, the KIIT Legal Services Clinic organized an outreach legal awareness programme for students of Shailendra Narayan Government High School, Patia. The session included mentoring interactions and discussions on legal rights, social responsibilities, and awareness about key laws affecting young citizens.

12. Speed Mentoring Session on Legal Rights and Responsibilities at LR DAV Public School, Cuttack

On 24th August 2024, the Legal Aid Clinic of KIIT School of Law conducted a speed mentoring and legal awareness session for students at LR DAV Public School, Cuttack. The programme focused on educating students about their legal rights, civic responsibilities, and the importance of legal literacy among youth.

13. Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme at KIIT-DU

KIIT Deemed to be University observed Anti-Ragging Day and Anti-Ragging Week from 12–18 August 2024, organizing awareness sessions and oath-taking programmes to educate students about the legal consequences of ragging and promote a safe and inclusive campus environment.

14. Legal Awareness Campaign for Housekeeping and Security Staff

On 21st April 2024, the Legal Services Clinic of KIIT School of Law organized an awareness campaign aimed at empowering housekeeping and security staff within the campus. The session focused on workers’ rights, legal protections, and access to legal aid, ensuring that support staff are aware of their rights and available legal remedies.

15. 1st Annual General Session of the Legal Services Clinic

On 26th February 2024, the Legal Services Clinic of KIIT School of Law organized its first Annual General Session focusing on the importance of legal aid, constitutional provisions for access to justice, and expanding legal awareness initiatives in rural and marginalized communities.

16. Empowering Young Minds: A Day of Legal Awareness at Shailendra Narayan Government High School, Patia

On 2nd September 2024, the KIIT Legal Services Clinic organized a legal awareness programme for students of Shailendra Narayan Government High School, Patia. The session engaged 9th and 10th graders on important social and legal issues such as the right to education, fundamental duties, and the POCSO Act, empowering them with knowledge to address real-world challenges.

17. 3rd International Sustainable Cooperative Management & Social Conference

The 3rd International Sustainable Cooperative Management & Social Conference was virtually hosted on 26 & 28 May 2024 by IGonGFESR & HERME ACADEMIA in collaboration with KIIT School of Law. The conference brought together over 50 global presenters who shared insights on artificial intelligence, sustainability, and ethical governance.

18. Bridging Theory and Practice: Field Visit to State Pollution Control Board, Odisha

On 18th April 2024, 60 final-year students from KIIT School of Law visited the State Pollution Control Board, Odisha. The visit provided practical exposure to environmental law enforcement, hazardous waste management, and regulatory practices through expert interactions and guided sessions.

19. Constitution Day Celebration at KIIT School of Law

Constitution Day was observed on 26th November 2023 with the theme “Constitutional Silences, Unconstitutional Inaction.” The event featured keynote sessions by distinguished legal experts including Shri Pinaki Misra, MP and Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India, along with discussions and a preamble reading to promote constitutional awareness.

20. International Symposium on “New Dimensions and Ideas in Environmental Anthropology”

A two-day International Symposium on Environmental Anthropology was organized with participation from scholars and experts across India and abroad. The symposium facilitated discussions on environmental sustainability, development challenges, and interdisciplinary research perspectives.

21. Legal Awareness Camp at Patia Girls High School

On 29th August 2023, a Legal Awareness Camp was organized at Patia Girls High School focusing on critical issues such as harassment, cyber safety, and the POCSO Act. The interactive programme aimed to empower young girls with knowledge about their legal rights, safety measures, and support mechanisms.

22. School of Spiritualism and Yogic Sciences

School of Yoga was established by KIIT to foster yogic culture throughout the world. It imparts courses for the beginners as well as specialized courses for the practitioners. Beyond academics, the School seeks to create a yoga community where one can share daily matters, stress at work or problems in life and to inspire the community to live empowered, creative, vibrant lives through the practices of yoga and meditation.
