The Impact of Media Trial on Administration of Justice - A Critical Study

The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) -sponsored project “” in KIIT School of Law investigated how media trials undermine the right to a fair trial by influencing public opinion and undermining judicial impartiality. It examined the delicate balance that must be struck between the administration of justice and media freedom, emphasizing the need for responsible journalism. The results of the study were considered in the development of several sections of the Digital Data Protection Act, 2023, especially those that deal with privacy protection and the distribution of upright information.

The project emphasized media responsibility and encouraged the knowledge of media and ethical journalism, enabling the public to evaluate news objectively without being influenced by sensationalism. Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution promotes a reasonable interpretation of free expression while making sure that media freedom does not compromise judicial equity. As a result, the public grows more knowledgeable, and the media upholds democracy without sacrificing justice.
