Neutral platform and "safe" space for discussing challenges

Universities often serve as neutral platforms and safe spaces for different political stakeholders to come together and engage in open and frank discussions about various challenges. By providing a neutral and safe space for discussions, universities contribute to fostering an informed and engaged citizenry. They support the principles of free speech, open inquiry, and the exchange of ideas, which are fundamental to the development of democratic societies and the resolution of political challenges through peaceful means.

His Excellency Prof. Shri Ganeshi Lal Governor of Odisha Inaugurated the Indian Universities Forum at KIIT, Emphasizes Education's Role in Societal Emancipation

On 23rd February 2023, KIIT Deemed to be University hosted the Indian Universities Forum, inaugurated by Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal. The event, organized by Times Higher Education with the theme “Optimizing the Learning Landscape,” gathered key educational leaders to discuss the role of higher education in societal progress. In his address, Governor Lal highlighted education’s transformative power, emphasizing its role in societal upliftment and harmony. Reflecting on India’s peace-driven initiatives, he stated, “When the world engaged in conflicts, our nation, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, promoted harmony and provided life-saving vaccines.”

Alison Barrett, British Council India’s Country Director, praised KIIT’s commitment to socio-economic upliftment, describing its transformation as “from grass to gold.” She commended KISS’s multilingual education efforts, which won the UNESCO Literacy Prize in 2022. Phil Baty from Times Higher Education lauded KIIT’s global recognition in tackling inequality and fostering research, noting the university’s exemplary growth in just 25 years as a catalyst for educational and social change.

His Excellency Dr. Dansa Kourouma, President of the National Transition Council of Guinea, Received KISS Humanitarian Award and Attend Republic Day Celebrations at KIIT

His Excellency Dr. Dansa Kourouma, President of the National Transition Council of Guinea, is set to receive the prestigious “KISS Humanitarian Award-2019” on January 25, 2024. In conjunction with this honor, he will deliver an inspiring address to the 40,000 indigenous students at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) – a sister concern of KIIT, sharing his insights and experiences in humanitarian efforts.

Additionally, Dr. Kourouma will serve as the Chief Guest at the 75th Republic Day celebrations at KIIT and KISS on January 26, 2024. His address will be a highlight of the event, which promises to be a grand celebration attended by staff, students, and guests at the impressive KIIT and KISS stadium. On 15th April 2023, His Excellency Prof. Shri Ganeshi Lal Governor of Odisha, during his visit to KIIT Deemed to be University, honored distinguished Parliamentarians from the G20 nations and Ambassadors from five countries at the Y20 Consultations held on April 15, 2023. KIIT DU organized the event focused on the Y20 theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Earth, One Family, One Future), emphasizing global unity and shared progress. Governor Lal highlighted how Y20, part of India’s G20 initiatives, empowers youth to contribute toward global peace, prosperity, and equality. His address underscored the critical role of young leaders in fostering sustainable development, mirroring the vision of a harmonious global community. Global Leaders: Cesar Guillermo Castillo Reyes and Govindbhai Laljibhai Dholakia Honoured for Leadership and Social Service

On KIIT Deemed to be University’s 20th anniversary, former Vice President of Guatemala, Cesar Guillermo Castillo Reyes, and Govindbhai Laljibhai Dholakia, Founder-Chairman of Sri Ramakrishna Export Private Limited, were conferred the KISS Lifetime Achievement Award for their significant contributions to social service, leadership, and philanthropy. The awards were presented by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Dholakia praised Dr. Samanta’s vision for the institution. Dr. Reyes emphasized the importance of visionary leaders like Dr. Samanta in establishing educational institutions that can transform lives. Ambassador Sujan R Chinoy and Experts Discuss India's G20 Leadership at KIIT's Think20 Event

KIIT Deemed to be University recently hosted a Think20 (T20) side event on 5th May 2023, titled “India’s Leadership of G20 and Global Priorities,” where Ambassador Sujan R Chinoy, Director General of MP-IDSA and Chair of India’s T20 Presidency, served as the keynote speaker. During his address, Ambassador Chinoy emphasized India’s role in advancing “Reformed Multilateralism” and its priorities during the G20 Presidency. Commending KIIT and KISS for their commitment to sustainable and inclusive education, he acknowledged KISS’s unique position as the world’s largest residential tribal university.

The event featured insightful presentations on key G20 topics: sustainable energy, digital infrastructure, global financial systems, and SDG acceleration, led by students and scholars from KIIT and KISS. Ambassador Debraj Pradhan, Director General of KIIT’s International Relations Office, facilitated the event, which was jointly organized by KIIT’s Schools of Law, Management, and Social Sciences, along with KISS.

Odisha Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik and Ministers Celebrate Tribal Heritage at First Janjatiya Khel Mahotsav, Hosted by KIIT and KISS

The inaugural Janjatiya Khel Mahotsav, hosted by KIIT and KISS from 9th – 12th June 2023, concluded with Odisha emerging as the overall champion. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attended the grand event, hailing it as a milestone that showcased the athletic prowess and rich heritage of India’s tribal communities. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Odisha Government, the Mahotsav drew over 5,000 tribal athletes and 1,000 officials from 26 states, promoting indigenous sports on a national platform. Karnataka and Jharkhand emerged as runners-up in the overall tally, while Odisha triumphed in key sports such as rugby, hockey, kabaddi, and football. Addressing the attendees, CM Patnaik praised Odisha’s commitment to sports development, with special mention of tribal athletes’ contributions to India’s sporting success. Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren Visits KIIT & KISS- a sister initiative of KIIT

On 28th April 2023, Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren visited the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) – a sister concern of KIIT and lauded its transformative impact on tribal education. Impressed by Dr. Achyuta Samanta’s vision, Shri Soren described KISS as a monumental achievement, stating, “It is unthinkable to create such a vast institution, even for a government.” Inspired, he expressed interest in establishing a similar institution in Jharkhand to address tribal issues, including the Naxal problem. His wife, Smt. Kalpana Murmu Soren, encouraged students to pursue their dreams with confidence, while Jharkhand’s Chief Secretary Shri Sukhdev Singh praised KISS as an “empire” of education.

Odisha Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik Inaugurated KISS - a sister concern of KIIT Second Campus and Sports Facilities Honoring Indian Sports Legends

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the second campus of KISS- a sister concern of KIIT and a range of sports facilities at KIIT and KISS, honoring Indian sports icons on 17th February 2023. Built at a cost of ₹100 crore, the new KISS campus includes academic buildings, a library, and hostels for 3,000 boys and girls. Chief Minister Patnaik also unveiled the ₹500 crore Biju Patnaik Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, along with other facilities named after Indian sports legends like Dilip Tirkey and Dutee Chand, celebrating their achievements. Attending legends expressed appreciation for Dr. Achyuta Samanta’s tribute through these dedications. Odisha Sports Secretary R. Vineel Krishna highlighted the state’s sports commitment, with KIIT and KISS setting an inspiring example for institutions nationwide.

His Excellency Prof. Shri Ganeshi Lal Governor of Odisha Launches Mass CPR Training Initiative at KIIT

His Excellency Prof. Shri Ganeshi Lal Governor of Odisha inaugurated a Mass Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training Program at KIIT Deemed-to-be-University, aiming to equip students and staff with essential life-saving skills. Joined by Krishna Kishore Jasthi, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, retired IAS officer Akshay Pani, Dr. Vemuri S. Murthy, a global resuscitation expert, and Dr. Achyuta Samanta, KIIT & KISS Founder, the Governor emphasized the importance of CPR proficiency for community health.

In the first phase, 1,500 students received CPR training, with plans to extend the initiative to all KIIT and KISS members over 18 months. This program, conducted in collaboration with KIIT Sri Jagannatha Service Foundation and Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, is expected to benefit remote tribal communities across Odisha.

Odisha Chief Minister Inaugurated New Facilities for KIIT-KISS - a sister concern of KIIT Community and Public

On November 11, 2023, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated several new facilities at KIIT and KISS – a sister concern of KIIT, aimed at supporting employees and the general public. These include Shephalee Creche, KIIT Public School, Jayanta Mahapatra Public Library, Baba Ram Narayan Das Prasad Sevan Kendra, and KIIT Souvenir Gallery.

Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, highlighted these initiatives as part of ongoing efforts to enhance employee welfare and community outreach. KIIT Public School will offer English medium CBSE education for the children of employees earning below ₹30,000 monthly. The library and Prasad Sevan Kendra provide subsidized resources and meals, while the Souvenir Gallery showcases Odia crafts and KIIT memorabilia, celebrating local culture and community support.

Member of Parliament Shri Pinaki Misra Highlights Constitutional Responsibilities at KIIT Law School’s Constitution Day Celebration

On November 26, 2023, KIIT Law School (KLS) observed Constitution Day, organized by its Centre for Constitutional Law Studies and Research (CCLSR) and the NSS Unit, with the theme “Constitutional Silences, Unconstitutional Inaction.” The event aimed to deepen understanding of gaps and potential areas of inaction in India’s Constitution.

Shri Pinaki Misra, Member of Parliament and Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court, delivered a keynote address focusing on the judiciary’s role in maintaining constitutional integrity. He analyzed the case of the State of Punjab vs. Principal Secretary, emphasizing the principle that Governors, as non-elected officials, should not obstruct legislative processes. His address underscored the judiciary’s duty to safeguard against unconstitutional inaction, resonating with the event’s theme.

On 03rd July 2023, KiiT School celebrated its Foundation Day with His Excellency Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai Governor of Goa as the Chief Guest, who praised the transformative influence of a “creative minority” in society. He emphasized that small groups with a visionary mindset can drive societal change, referencing India’s freedom struggle led by only five percent of the population.

Governor Pillai lauded Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, for his vision and highlighted the need for more leaders like him to advance India’s education sector globally. Dr. Samanta celebrated KiiT International School’s achievements, including its status as a special school and its unique affiliations. C20 Commenced at KIIT with Call for Gender Equality & Mainstreaming Differently Abled Women

The Civil 20 (C20) Gender Equality and Disability Working Group Summit launched at KIIT-DU on 22nd April 2023, focusing on empowering women and integrating differently abled women. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, underscored the importance of women’s empowerment for societal progress, referencing Odisha’s Mission Shakti initiative that has uplifted 7 million women in self-help groups.

Mauritius Minister Kalpana Devi Koonjoo Shah called for supportive legislation for differently abled women, reinforcing the summit’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity. Mata Amritanandamayi, C20 Chair, emphasized the need to create opportunities for women and recognize their equality, warning that suppressing their potential limits global productivity. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri advocated for workplace compassion and equality. Diplomat Vijay K. Nambiar highlighted the necessity of investing in                                                                                                                                                     women-led development for a stronger economy.

During a recent visit on 26th April 2023, to the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) – a sister concern of KIIT, Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal and RSS National Executive Member Indresh Kumar engaged with students to promote patriotism and community spirit. Prof. Lal praised Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, for fostering love and respect, highlighting KISS’s role in educating tribal students and protecting them from negative influences.

Indresh Kumar delivered an interactive presentation, emphasizing patriotism, environmental stewardship, and values like cleanliness and discipline. He encouraged students to embrace the motto “nation first, nation always, nation last.” Dr. Samanta noted this as Kumar’s second visit, reflecting the alignment of KISS’s values with those of the RSS.

Approximately 300 KIIT School of Language & Literature (KSLL) students participated enthusiastically in the First World Odia Language Conference held on February 5, 2024. The event featured insightful sessions with renowned international scholars and discussions on the theme “Odisha@2036: A Space for Tomorrow” led by prominent business leaders.

Students were captivated by a vibrant exhibition showcasing various aspects of Odisha culture, enhancing their appreciation of their heritage. They were particularly excited to hear from internationally acclaimed Odia fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra, who shared his insights and experiences. The conference culminated in a grand closing ceremony attended by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, further underscoring the importance of the event in promoting the Odia language and culture. On the Foundation Day of Arunachal Pradesh was commemorated at Raj Bhavan, Odisha, with participation from students of KIIT Deemed to be University who hail from the state. This celebration, aligned with the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative, aimed to promote national integration and unity among diverse cultures.
