Programmed Education Outreach Activities
The University is continually involved in educational outreach activities beyond the campus through its faculty members, staff and also its students. They provide voluntary and free educational programs to School students in remote and rural areas belonging to different standards.
Simple scientific experiments and demonstrations are carried out to inspire the students belonging to poor communities to continue their education with a goal to excel in life.
The University has adopted several Schools where it provides financial support, development of academic infrastructure, libraries, proper sanitation and recreation facilities to the students of the area. Faculty members are engaged in providing training to the teachers on content delivery, public speaking and students/parent counseling to reduce dropout rates. Voluntary teaching classes with students with special learning activities are carried out in different schools once or twice a month by both the faculty members and senior students of the University. Awareness camps on education, health and hygiene are carried out every month in selected areas. Special vocational and skill development programs are also carried out with high school students belonging to poor communities to ensure that they have a stable livelihood. A community engagement cell has been set up in this regard. All these programs are carried out both on adhoc and programmed basis. Besides, the staff and students enormously contribute to the educational ventures of its sister concern, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) which started in Bhubaneswar and is now on its way to setting up satellite centers to reach out more to the downtrodden segments of the society with the mission to eradicate poverty by providing quality education to all.

Educating Tribal Students
The staff and students of the University play a significant role in supporting the educational initiatives of its sister institution, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). KISS, which began in Bhubaneswar, is expanding by establishing satellite centers to further its mission of alleviating poverty through the provision of quality education to underprivileged communities
Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Bhubaneswar https://kiss.ac.in/about/ is a completely free, fully residential institution that provides comprehensive education from kindergarten to post-graduation for 30,000 underprivileged indigenous/tribal children. Along with education, students receive lodging, meals, healthcare, vocational training, and life skills empowerment. KISS aims to educate 200,000 tribal children over the next decade by establishing branches in 10 states and across all 30 districts of Odisha, with support from respective state governments. KISS students excel in academics, extracurricular activities, and sports at both national and international levels, making the institute a successful model of tribal empowerment through education. Currently, KISS has operational centers in Delhi, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Delhi https://www.kissdelhi.ac.in/ is a joint initiative between the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi and KISS Bhubaneswar. It offers free quality education and vocational training to children from economically weaker sections and orphans, operating as a fully residential school. With a current enrollment of 1,200 students, it provides education from Class I to Class XII following the CBSE curriculum. The school is entirely supported by the Delhi government and is managed by the Chief Executive Officer of KISS Delhi and his team.
A new KISS branch is being established in Kolkata, West Bengal, in partnership with ‘Help Us Help Them,’ a Kolkata-based NGO with a similar mission. This residential school will accommodate over 1,000 children and follow the same structural model as KISS.

In February 2020, the ‘Oswal-KISS Residential School’ was inaugurated in Bolangir, Odisha, in collaboration with the Oswal Group
The Adani-KISS Tribal Residential School was established in January 2020 at Bankishole, Baripada, Mayurbhanj, Odisha. This school offers free holistic education from kindergarten to post-graduation, including lodging, boarding, healthcare, vocational training, and life skills development for underprivileged tribal children in the district and nearby areas. Currently, 1,500 students are enrolled in each school from grades I to XII.
The Emami KISS Residential School, a joint venture with the Emami Group http://www.emamiltd.in/, follows the original KISS model. It serves as a residential academic center that provides free holistic education, accommodation, food, healthcare, study materials, and sports training for its students.
KIMS-ICMR Team at Boudh Sterilization Camp
KIMS ICMR team, working in Boudh district of Odisha on the Project “An intervention study to increase male participation in Family Planning program” under PI Prof. Dr. Sonali Kar, Dept of Community Medicine, attended the Female and Male sterilization camp at DHH Boudh and CHC Purunakatak, respectively on 9th February and 10th February 10th February 2023. The team as a part of the Intervention Phase, currently going on in the project, has been generating awareness with an effort to make qualitative family planning choices among the eligible couples, in sampled intervention villages. While they end the 1st quarter of the intervention phase, the camp was the icing on the cake for the consistent efforts made by the team, comprising of Post graduates from Community Medicine, Advisor Prof Dr. Samantaray(Co-PI) and a dedicated team of Consultant (Shri Bishnu Dash) and supervisors (Susanta Bhoi and Ajaya Pradhan) working at the field lead by the PI. The team managed to mobilize a maximum number of participants, both males and females for the camp.
On behalf of the whole team, Dr. Asutosh Pradhan, 2nd year PG from Dept of Community Medicine, Mr. Bishnu Dash along with Field supervisors gave away a token of appreciation to each of the Operating surgeons (Dr. Sudarshan Meher, Dr Kishore Pattnaik, Dr. Shantanu Mishra) and Medical Officer In-charge
(Dr Chinmaya Mishra) of CHC Purunakatak, Boudh. The team’s efforts were lauded by the District/Block officials for their persistent support and determination against all odds. The team also expresses its hearty gratitude to Director Family welfare (Dr. Bijay Panigrahi) and State MCH Consultant Shri Saroj Panigrahi for encouraging the team and handholding for all initiatives.

KIIT-TBI holds UK-India HealthTech Bootcamp
KIIT-TBI, the technology business incubator of the KIIT-Deemed-to-be-University, along with Academic Health Science Network, Yorkshire and Humber and Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster Foundation (BCKIC) has been organising a three-day UK-India HealthTech Bootcamp with top 25 start-ups from the pan-Indian digital healthcare sector, to navigate and scale their healthtech business to the UK and the world.
These three days of extensive bootcamp was run by the delegation from Yorkshire & Humber AHSN team Dr Neville Young, Mr Tim East, Mr Tom Hutchinson and Ms Dace Dimza-Jones and British High Commission India team, Ms Leena Paul, Mr Deep Narayan, Mr Abhishek Jha & Mr Sandip Chaudhuri. On the second day of the event, Science and Technology Minister Government Odisha, Ashok Chandra Panda, hoped that with the post-COVID experience, the focus had already been shifted to the technology-enabled health-care delivery sector with emphasis on genomics and bio- engineering-led early and preventive interventions. However, citing a very important part of the current urban living due to nuclear families and isolated lives, the Minister called upon the participating start-ups to do artificial intelligence (AI) and other IT-based tool-enabled work to help the senior citizens suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s types of neurological disorders.
The COVID management steps taken by the Odisha Government, Social Security Schemes for the elderly during the pandemic, BSKY benefits and lauded the role of KIMS Hospital, a constituent of KIIT-DU, as a leading healthcare hub to come to the rescue of the people of Odisha, Mr. Panda added.
Acting British Deputy High Commissioner Peter Cook, in his speech, appreciated the enthusiasm of 150 applications for the bootcamp and wished that in near future the platform would enable the healthtech ventures to get to work in the markets of UK, US, Latin American, EU and other world centers.
Narrating the role of AI, IT-tools, genomics and biotech research in having an e-diagnostics and e- consultation frameworks to help the patients, especially in remote and rural pockets in future, Cook said “predictability in the healthcare delivery will definitely have an edge over others in near future.’’ Mr Peter Cook also hoped that this unique event through KIIT-TBI and BCKIC will also help the academic community in the health sector and also National Health Service (NHS) and UK health ecosystem.
CEO KIIT-TBI and Chairman- BCKIC Dr Mrutyunjay Suar said “the extensive course during the healthtech bootcamp would provide the start-ups an update on the UK’s healthcare ecosystem and market, access to subject matter experts and the opportunity to engage directly with NHS stakeholders.’’ KIIT-TBI has successfully incubated 380 startups and created more than 5,000 job opportunities in various sectors with innovative ideas and solutions. Besides healthtech, it is also contributing in the sectors like agriculture, IT, engineering, core healthcare, environment, wastewater treatment, water quality and many others, he stated.
In the concluding session, Mr Shankar N Ram, Chairman, TiE Global provided the perspective of TiE chapters in supporting startups including women entrepreneurs. He praised the role of KIIT TBI in establishing and amplifying the startup ecosystem in the Country and extended all support from TiE Global to scale it up.

KIDS Conducts Free Dental Screening and Treatment Camps
The Department of Public Health Dentistry of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), Bhubaneswar has collaborated with the HMV Driver Training Institute, Chhatia. Following the philosophy of the “Art of Giving” initiated by Founder, Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, this initiative was led by Dr. JugajyotiPathi, Deputy Director (Administration), KIDS and Principal Dr. Aswini Kumar Kar.
With mutual cooperation and coordination between the two institutes, under the guidance of Dr. Ipseeta Menon (HoD and Professor) and the staff of Public Health Dentistry Department, free dental screening and treatment camps are scheduled to be organized on a weekly basis at the Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) Driver Training Institute, Chhatia. All the patients attending the camp will be provided consultation, treatment procedures like teeth cleaning, tooth extractions and tooth fillings at free of cost. If the treatment cannot be performed at the camp site, those requiring advance treatment will be referred to KIDS. The weekly dental checkup camps to be conducted will be beneficial for the staff and students of the drivers’ training institute. On January 5 a dental camp was organized at the HMV Driver Training Institute. The organizing team included
Dr. KunalJha(Professor); Post Graduates – Dr. Spandita Das and Dr. Arnab Das along with a team of seven interns and two paramedical staff.
In all, 66 staff and students of the HMV Driver Training Institute were screened and rendered basic dental treatment like scaling and restorations. They were referred for other complex treatments like root canal treatment and prosthetic rehabilitation at KIDS.
The treatment done included – oral prophylaxis-35, restorations- 10 and one extraction.Four of the 66 patients examined had potentially malignant lesions and conditions like Leukoplakia and Oral Submucous Fibrosis. These individuals were referred to KIDS for tobacco counselling and other necessary treatment.
An educational oral hygiene health talk was given by Prof.(Dr.) KunalJha to all the staff and students of the HMV Driver Training Institute stressing on tooth decay, gum diseases, tobacco cessation and measures of prevention. This will be followed up by routine dental visits conducted fortnightly henceforth.
On January 12 those screened trainees of the HMV Driver Training Institute, who were referred to KIDS come for further treatment. They underwent oral prophylaxis, restoration and surgical extraction followed by tobacco counselling and health education.

“Kanya Kiran” program had been launched in association with United Nations Women and Kalinga Fellowship. In a mobilization of scale and spread unheard of before, the program covered all the Panchayats of the State of Odisha in India, spreading awareness on social evils of violence against women and girl child among millions of households. Over 3000+ staff of the University, particularly women staff were actively involved as coordinators and volunteers. They disseminated the message at household level in villages amid overwhelming response. The Women folk also were made aware of hygiene and environmental issues.
In the year of 2023, National Girl Child Day and the International Day of Education were celebrated by ‘Kanya Kiran’ across 47 places including 30 district headquarters of Odisha.
KIIT University is now a conglomeration of institutions imparting education and training in various branches of Engineering, Medical and Dental studies, Jurisprudence, Management, Nursing, Biotechnology, Film and Media, Humanities and many others. For example, In Kandhamal Parliamentary Constituency, KIIT has facilitated giving employment to 7000 unemployed rural youth with an academic qualification from 5th class to 10th class inviting 80 companies from all over the country and training for skilling 15000 rural youth from the entire Kandhamal and its periphery districts.
KIIT Community Engagement Cell (CEC) In the beginning KIIT has taken one aspirational district, Kandhamal, the poorest district with 75% population belonging to ST and SC for the CEC.
In the case of Rural Development, the University has tremendous contribution since its inception. It has started converting remote villages into smart villages. It has adopted 10 local villages to develop them as model and smart villages, where students are being taught by the University faculties from time to time.
List of villages adopted are: Injina, Satyabhamapur, Gotalgam, Allarpur, Padmakesharipur, Nishchintakoili, Shyamsundarpur, Kalarahanga, Raghunathpur and Pathargadia.
One of the smart village is Kalarabank, situated in the district of Cuttack, 60 KM from Bhubaneswar. This village had no facilities for the people of that area. Now the Kalarabank village has been certified as the one of the smart villages in the country. The entire Panchayat (cluster of villages) has been developed into the Model Panchayat. City amenities have been created in this Village and Panchayat and so it is looking just like a city. The facilities include High School (Residential), Nationalised Bank with Locker & ATM, Police Station, Post Office, vernacular residential school (Kalinga English Medium School), KIMS Rural Health Centre with Tele-Medicine Facility, Public Library, Public Park, children’s Park, Drinking Water Project, Concrete Road, Street Lights, Citizen Knowledge & Service Centre, etc.
Odisha’s ST & SC Development Department and Odisha Tribal Development Society (OTDS) have set a goal for the University to train 150 unemployed tribal youngsters from the Kandhamal District every year. Candidates receive training on electrical solar PV installation under the scheme “Prayash”.
Further, under this scheme, the University has signed MoUs with Odisha Tribal Development Society (OTDS) and Odisha SC & ST Development Finance Co-operativeCorporation Ltd. (OSFDC) on 23rd November 2021 for skill development training programme among SC and ST candidates. As per the agreement with OSFDC, KIIT will impart skill training in three sectors to 210 candidates from Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts of Odisha. Similarly, skill training will be imparted to 240 candidates from Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Deobagarh and Gajapati districts of Odisha in 3 sectors, as per the MoU with OTDS. Earlier, the University has trained 1100 candidates on various sectors and trades under empanelment for Skill Development Training programme with OSFDC. About 750 candidates were placed in various industries inside and outside Odisha. The programme is meant for SC candidates from poor families. During the last batch training, about 75% of the candidates were placed with industries outside Odisha. The programme is meant for SC and ST candidates from poor families.

Students and faculty members have been participating in National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Youth Red Cross (YRC) activities through Social Awareness Campaigns, Street Plays on Social Issues, Blood Donation Camps, Cycle Rallies and Training the Underprivileged Children etc. that have been carried out in 2023. NSS:-Two units of NSS, one for boys and one for girls with strength of 500 volunteers are functional in the University with the approval of the Govt. of Odisha. Any student having inclination towards social work can join. The main aims and objectives of NSS units are to involve the youth in constructive and developmental programmes in rural society. This fosters national integration through community living and co-operative action. Annually a Chancellor’s trophy is awarded to the best performing students in the respective field.
NCC: Senior Division NCC (Army) is functioning in the University. Students of any wing can take part after going through the selection process. The total strength of the cadets is 60.
YRC: Youth Red Cross is a volunteer driven society aiming to create awareness on the care of their own health and that of others.

The official society of KIIT for the “Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Aamongst Youth” (SPIC MACAY) is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture. A SPICMACAY chapter was formed at KIIT in May 2003. This chapter has been successful in introducing some of the most renowned Indian Classical Musicians like Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pt. Mukul Shivputra and IIeana Citristi to the KIIT community. These concerts are free and open to all and have served to spread awareness about rich cultural heritage of India among a varied audience.

Legal Aid Student Society of the University is set up in pursuance to Part IV Entry II of the Bar Council of India Rules on Legal Education that makes it mandatory for all 5 year law programmes to have a functional Legal Aid initiative. The Society is one of its own kind whose primary focus is to rendering free legal aid services to those who find themselves unable to ensure the same. Its role, however, will be restricted only to counselling and assisting the seeker to find a suitable lawyer and there is no scope for the Society to appear before any court or tribunal whatsoever. The Clinic works under the guidance of eminent lawyers from various High Courts and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, professors from other prestigious law schools, legal luminaries, scholars, faculty and students of School of Law, KIIT University. The society is also engaged in activities involving awareness programs on women rights and duties, preventing violence on women, gender equality in society and workplace. The center works in close association with other KIIT Teams to ensure that the goals set are realized effectively.\

10th International Art of Giving Day Celebrated World Wide
The 10 th Anniversary celebration of “International Day of Art of Giving (AOG) Day” was observed worldwide on Wednesday through various events and activities. The innovative AOG concept was launched on 17th May 2013 by eminent philanthropist and educationist Dr. Achyuta Samanta to spread the message of cooperation, happiness, peace and harmony across the world. The theme for this year is ‘Helping the Help’.
The followers, well-wishers and fans of AOG celebrated the Day across 350 locations in 120 countries across six continents. Besides, the followers and well-wishers of AOG commemorated the day in 3500 locations in 29 states, 4 UTIs and 200 cities and towns in India.
In Odisha, AOG Day was celebrated at 10,000 locations in 30 districts, 10 major cities and towns, over 300 blocks and more than 5000 Gram Panchayats of Odisha.
A special event was organised here and service providers from various fields, who havemade a mark in society through their generous acts, were felicitated with the AoG Hero Award. They are Dr Shankar Ramchandani of Sambalpur District who charges only Rs 1 as a visiting fee; Abharani Choudhury, Secretary Odisha Patita Uddhar Samiti; Ranjita Rath, the Multipurpose Health Supervisor of Jajpur District; Silabati Pradhan, Asha Worker of Kandhamal District; Amarnath Mahanta, Ambulance Driver from Keonjhar District and Feroze Mohammed, Traffic Police of the Police Commissionerate.
Speaking at the event, R Balakrishnan, Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister of Odisha described Art of Giving as the “heart of giving”. He said that AOG is a matter connected to fairness and it is important for individuals, society and the country.
Higher Education Secretary Bishnupada Sethi said AOG had become a solid movement while President of Sriram Temple, Unit-2 Bhubaneswar Swami Ram Narayan Das said Dr Samanta has awakened amongst us the happiness that can be gained through AOG.
Dr Samanta said that people of Odisha should be proud of the fact that this thoughtprocess originated from this state. He said AOG event has been organised across the globe.

KIMS-ICMR Contraceptive Project: Awareness Video Gains Applause From NHM The National Health Mission (NHM) has praised KIMS for its efforts to increase male participation in family planning through an awareness video. The KIMS-ICMR team, led by Prof. Dr. Sonali Kar, has been working in Koraput district on a project focusing on male involvement in family planning. On March 27, NHM officials visited the project site, observing community screenings and clinical check-ups. The initiative, also running in Boudh District, uses local-language drama to educate about contraceptive methods. The project team expressed gratitude to NHM and KIMS leadership for their support and encouragement.

KIIT Job Fair in Patia Village
The Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta on Saturday handed over appointment letters to 125 unemployed youths of Patia village, taking the number of employees from the village who are engaged in the KIIT family to 325. The appointment letters were handed over at a mega job fair organized with the active cooperation of the Patia Gram Mangala Samiti and office bearers of the samiti who were present on the occasion. They included Corporators of Ward No 3 Laxmipriya Parida, Nrusingha Rout, Chittaranjan Patra, Santosh Parida, Amulya Jena and Bishnu Patra of Patia Gram Mangal Samiti.
During his visit to the village last year, the Founder had assured the villagers to consider their demands for engaging the unemployed youths at KIIT. As of now, more than 200 people from the village are already engaged in KIIT, KISS and KIMS. The total number of employees from Patia village in KIIT, KISS, & KIMS now stands at 325. The Founder said, it’s a record that so many youths from villages have got employment in one institute.

“Art of Giving” Volunteers Provide Succour to the Flood-Hit

At this crucial and challenging time, the “Art of Giving” volunteers from KIIT Deemed to be University in collaboration with the local volunteers and ODRAF team members, braving their lives in the gushing flood waters, have come to the rescue of 500 stranded villagers of Sukhukhala under Banki subdivision in Cuttack district.
Playing the role of angels, the “Art of Giving” volunteers provided them with relief materials, including dry food, essential medicines, drinking water, sanitary napkins and fodder for livestock. It is noteworthy that the team was the first to reach the distressed people with relief materials which provided much-needed succour and emotional support in the hour of crisis. The team is active and is playing a crucial supportive role in various parts of the State.

KIIT has been nominated as a mentor institute to extend all sorts of support to those institutions awaiting for accreditation in different stages starting from preparation of Self Study Report to visit of Peer Team Members by NAAC. Eleven colleges and one University have signed their MoU with KIIT to be the mentee institutions.
On regular basis time to time, KIIT University conducts the workshop and presents the objectives of SSR preparation with discussion in meeting of 48 Principals and faculties of 12 mentee institutions.

- KSAC society- ENACTUS: Enabling transgenders and Disable Women
ENACTUS KISS-KIIT’ is an innovative initiative by the students of the University to improve the quality of life in society. Under this initiative, in 2016, Project SIDDHI was undertaken, which provided opportunity to the oppressed communities specially the transgenders in and around Bhubaneswar to change their lives for the better. They also spread the awareness to eliminate the use of plastic bags by replacing it with handmade paper bags.

- After successful collaboration with the transgenders, ENACTUS worked with a voluntary organization, Aaina. The students also worked with the disabled women to make them self-sufficient. The disabled women worked on an order of 5000 newspaper bags from Urban Micro and made crafty bags with designs like gift bags from handmade paper.
- ENACTUS in collaboration with Daya Foundation, an organization working for women from backward areas prepared an order for “Delight Bakeries” of 14000 brown paper bags with customized print. Another order with the Founder of “Biggies, Burger n more” for an order of 20000 brown paper bags with customized print in collaboration with Niyatee Foundation (https://www.niyateefoundation.org/) and Udyog Foundation (http://udfoundation.org.in/) was undertaken and successfully delivered.
- ENWIPE, a project introduced by KISS-KIIT, is a unique concept of water-less car wash service at the customer’s doorstep. ENACTUS promoted a special eco-friendly solution for cleaning the vehicles, adding only 500ml of water to 5ml of the solution. The main aim of Project Enwipe is to use minimal amount of water and provide employment opportunities to under privileged and physically challenged (hearing and speech impaired) individuals, simultaneously helping them earn and live as equal contributors in society.
